When: | 21 Jun 09 | Where: | Mt Charleston | What: | Hike - Echo Overlook | Distance: | 4 mi | Elevation Gain: | 1500 | The Plan: | General Info:
This trail is 4 miles round trip with an elevation gain of 1500 feet. This is a strenuous hike, considered slightly more difficult than Cathedral Rock. Currently we are expecting clear skies and temperatures in the low seventies.
This hike will take us through pine and fir forest, an avalanche chute and finally a series of switchbacks lead to the top of Echo Cliffs.
We will meet at the trailhead by 0950 and depart by 1000.
Trailhead:
This hike is located in Kyle Canyon up in the Spring Mountains, about an hour northwest of Las Vegas.
From town, drive out to Mt Charleston turning on Kyle Canyon Road. You'll continue down Kyle eventually going through a big hairpin bend to the left. You will wind up a hill, and shortly arrive at a wide parking lot on the uphill side of the road just before the entrance to Cathedral Rock Picnic Area. This is a free parking lot but if it is full there is a pay lot just past. We will meet at the South Loop trailhead up in the pay lot.
