|When: ||12 Aug 06 |
|Where: ||Mt Charleston |
|What: ||Big Falls |
|Distance: ||4 miles round trip |
|1000 ft |
|The Plan: ||We will meet at the trail head around 0900 and start the hike at or a little after 0915. |
From town, drive out to Kyle Canyon turning right onto Echo Road (the first paved road to the right past the Old Town Fire Station). If you miss the turn, you'll go around a big hairpin bend to the left. Take Echo Road down to Mary Jane Falls Road, a dirt road to the left. Turn left onto Mary Jane Falls Road at the end of the road is a parking lot which leads to both Mary Jane and Big Falls.
This can be a fairly strenuous 4 mile hike as the trail is no longer maintained by the Forest Service. The trail winds its way up a boulder-strewn canyon ending at a seasonal waterfall.
