When: | 25 Oct 09 | Where: | Red Rock | What: | Hike - Gateway Canyon | Distance: | 3.5 | Elevation Gain: | | The Plan: | fiogf49gjkf0d General Info:
This hike is about 3.5 miles and can be done either as a loop or up and back. While this hike is short it is not a dog hike as discovered last time we attempted this. Below is some basic information others have provided.
There is some rock scrambling but supposedly it can be bypassed by staying on the slopes.
This hike starts out along the desert floor than runs up a slope and gully to a saddle. From there we will drop down into Gateway Canyon and follow the wash out. Once out of the wash we will cross the desert flats back to the trailhead.
We will meet up at the Red Springs Picnic Area by 0945. From there we can carpool/caravan the mile to the trailhead where we will depart from at 1000.
Staging/Trailhead:
Take Charleston out towards Red Rock. Before Red Rock you will turn right onto Calico Basin Road. Drive about a mile down this road and park in the parking lot. From here we will head to the trailhead so if you miss us here you might be able to catch us at the trailhead. To get to the trailhead follow Calico Basin and turn left on Assisi Canyon and right onto Sandstone and park where the road ends. | | Click here for our pictures and comments.
